Hoe verbeelden kunstenaars vandaag hemel en aarde in een tijd van fel verschuivende grenzen op onze wereldbol?
Vandaag worden de kaarten van de wereld ferm herschikt. Onze wereldbol beleeft spannende tijden en krijgt een nieuwe lay-out. Hoe kijken kunstenaars momenteel naar hemel en aarde?
Met de wetenschappelijke verbeelding van cartograaf Mercator als kompas ontkiemen thema’s zoals: lustig verdwalen, verborgen werelden, meten & (ge)weten, globale perspectieven en zelfs E.T.’ s ‘phone home’ in deze tentoonstelling met tekeningen, (digitale) prints, vergeelde mappen, sculpturen, installaties of A.I.-gedreven werken.
En ook dat nog! … in een verre toekomst voorspellen simulaties het onbetamelijk zwellen van de zeespiegel zodat het Waasland tot een eiland transformeert. Met de slimme inbreng van publiek en wetenschappers tonen we op deze expo hoe dat er mogelijk gaat uitzien.

Naar aanleiding van de expo zijn er ook artist talks, lezingen, voorleesmomenten en workshops voor jongeren in samenwerking met Kunst in Zichten. Deze data worden binnenkort bekend gemaakt. Uiteraard zijn er ook rondleidingen voor scholen of in groepsverband (ook buiten de openingsuren).
Kunstenaars WARP: creatieopdracht
Nieuwe creaties door Gabriella Ciancimino, Winnie Claessens, Emanuele Dainotti en Angelo Vermeulen. Van 19 oktober tot en met 23 november realiseren deze vier kunstenaars, elk in een ruimte bij WARP, een installatie die de cartografische blik richt op de toekomst. Wetenschappelijke simulaties geven namelijk aan dat Sint-Niklaas door het stijgen van de zeespiegel evolueert naar een eiland!
"Compleet van de kaart" is een samenwerking tussen Kunstenplatform WARP en CC Sint-Niklaas met Stef Van Bellingen als tentoonstellingsmaker. Tickets en openingsuren zijn hier beschikbaar.
How do artists today depict heaven and earth in a time of rapidly shifting boundaries on our globe?
Today, the maps of the world are being thoroughly reshuffled. Our globe is experiencing tensive times and is getting a new layout. How do artists currently view heaven and earth?
With the scientific imagination of cartographer Mercator as a compass, themes such as: merrily getting lost, hidden worlds, measurement & (con)science, global perspectives, and even E.T.'s "phone home" emerge in this exhibition featuring drawings, (digital) prints, yellowed maps, sculptures, installations, and AI-driven works.
And that is not all! ... in the distant future, simulations predict the unseemly rising of sea levels, transforming the Waasland region into an island. With the clever input of the public and scientists, this exhibition shows what that might look like.

In conjunction with the exhibition, there will also be artist talks, lectures, reading sessions, and workshops for adolescents in collaboration with Kunst in Zichten. These dates will be announced soon. Guided tours for schools and groups will also be available (including outside opening hours).
Artists WARP: assignment to create
New creations by Gabriella Ciancimino, Winnie Claessens, Emanuele Dainotti, and Angelo Vermeulen. From October 19th to November 23rd, these four artists, each in a separate space at WARP, will create an installation that turns a cartographic gaze toward the future. Scientific simulations indicate that the rising sea levels will cause Sint-Niklaas to evolve into an island!
