Hoe verbeelden kunstenaars vandaag hemel en aarde in een tijd van fel verschuivende grenzen op onze wereldbol?
Vandaag worden de kaarten van de wereld ferm herschikt. Onze wereldbol beleeft spannende tijden en krijgt een nieuwe lay-out. Hoe kijken kunstenaars momenteel naar hemel en aarde?
Met de wetenschappelijke verbeelding van cartograaf Mercator als kompas ontkiemen thema’s zoals: lustig verdwalen, verborgen werelden, meten & (ge)weten, globale perspectieven en zelfs E.T.’ s ‘phone home’ in deze tentoonstelling met tekeningen, (digitale) prints, vergeelde mappen, sculpturen, installaties of A.I.-gedreven werken.

De expo ontvouwt zich rond een reeks thema’s die onze blik op de wereld uitdagen: de verticale blik (axis mundi); projecties & verbeeldingen; meten (ge)weten; terra obscura (Terra Incognita vandaag); water & oceanen; hemelse fantastiek en reizen of zwerven we tenslotte niet om bij 'home' uit te komen?
Je kan de tentoonstelling in Zwijgershoek bezoeken op volgende momenten: maandag - zondag: 10u -17u. Sluitingsdagen: 24, 25 en 31 december, 1 januari. Nocturnes op 13, 19, 20 & 21 december. De expo is dan uitzonderlijk toegankelijk tot 22u.
"Compleet van de kaart" is een samenwerking tussen Kunstenplatform WARP en CC Sint-Niklaas met Stef Van Bellingen als tentoonstellingsmaker. Tickets en openingsuren zijn hier beschikbaar.
How do artists today depict heaven and earth in a time of rapidly shifting boundaries on our globe?
Today, the maps of the world are being thoroughly reshuffled. Our globe is experiencing tensive times and is getting a new layout. How do artists currently view heaven and earth?
With the scientific imagination of cartographer Mercator as a compass, themes such as: merrily getting lost, hidden worlds, measurement & (con)science, global perspectives, and even E.T.'s "phone home" emerge in this exhibition featuring drawings, (digital) prints, yellowed maps, sculptures, installations, and AI-driven works.
And that is not all! ... in the distant future, simulations predict the unseemly rising of sea levels, transforming the Waasland region into an island. With the clever input of the public and scientists, this exhibition shows what that might look like.
